Mr James HardmanPsychotherapist

BSc2+ years of experience

I offer 1:1 psychotherapy from my private practice in Manchester city centre, working with adults who may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, relationships, self-esteem, identity, life transitions, or simply feeling stuck in patterns they don't fully understand. My approach is grounded in existential psychotherapy and informed by humanistic, relational, psychodynamic and cognitive approaches. I’m interested not only in what you are experiencing, but in the person behind it — your relationships, experiences, patterns, beliefs, choices and the meaning you make of your life. I don’t see therapy as simply about fixing what is “wrong” with you. Sometimes the things we struggle with have developed for understandable reasons. Therapy can provide a space to slow things down, become more aware of what is happening beneath the surface, and explore whether the ways you have learned to relate to yourself, others and the world are still serving you. I work relationally, which means I place importance on the relationship we develop together. I aim to offer a space that is warm, honest and non-judgemental, while also being willing to gently challenge patterns when it feels helpful to do so. My work is particularly informed by existential questions around identity, freedom, responsibility, uncertainty, relationships, meaning and what it means to live authentically. I am a qualified integrative psychotherapist and a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). Alongside my private practice, I am undertaking doctoral studies in Existential Psychotherapy, continuing to develop my clinical practice and explore the wider psychological and social influences on how we experience ourselves and our lives. Therapy isn't about becoming a different person. It can be about understanding yourself more deeply, making sense of where you've come from, and discovering what might be possible from where you are now.
